Apart from providing physical protection for the cable the outer Jacket also provides a smooth and safe touch for the user. Some outer jackets also provide aid in the instalment or better winding and unwinding properties. For safety regulations the outer jacket can also consist of materials that emit very low levels of smoke or will self-extinguish when exposed to flames. 

For ease of installation these bulk cables are provided with an indication on every meter of the cable. This enables installers to have a clear and efficient indication of how many meters they still have available on their reel.
